This policy covers every Simply app published by Simply Apps UK: Simply Collect, Simply Convert, Simply Journal, Simply Me, Simply Read, Simply Schedule, Simply Scrapbook, Simply Sketch, Simply Sounds, Simply Stories and Simply Videos.
The short version
- We don’t collect any personal data. There are no accounts, no adverts, no analytics and no tracking.
- Everything you create or record in a Simply app is stored on your own device.
- Nothing leaves your device unless you use one of the optional features listed below, and then only what that feature needs.
Data stored on your device
Your conversions, collections, journals, notes, sketches, projects, stories, library details and settings are kept in each app’s private storage on your device. We can’t see them. Uninstalling an app deletes its data.
Backup (optional, off by default)
Each app has a backup switch in its Settings. If you turn it on, Android copies that app’s data to your own Google account using Android’s encrypted backup, so it can be restored on a new device. This is handled by Google under Google’s privacy policy; we never receive a copy. Simply Me never includes your journal in this backup.
Files you export
Some apps let you export or share your data (for example a profile, journal, project, story or picture). The file goes only where you choose to save or send it. Simply Me and Simply Journal exports are locked with a PIN you set.
Optional features that use the internet
Simply Collect, Simply Convert, Simply Me, Simply Schedule, Simply Scrapbook and Simply Sketch don’t use the internet at all. In the other apps, only these features connect, and only when you use them:
- Simply Read and Simply Stories – AI features. If you add your own API key, the text needed for the request (for example a book passage to summarise, or your story settings and prompts) is sent to the AI provider you choose – Google Gemini, Anthropic or OpenRouter – under that provider’s own privacy policy. Your key is stored only on your device.
- Simply Sounds – cover art. To find missing album covers, the album and artist name are sent to MusicBrainz and the Cover Art Archive.
- Simply Videos – subtitles. The first time you generate subtitles, the speech-recognition model is downloaded from Hugging Face and GitHub. Your videos and their audio are processed entirely on your device and are never uploaded.
- Simply Journal and Simply Stories – places and maps. If you add a place, your device’s location (Journal) or the place you search for is turned into a place name by Android’s built-in geocoder, which on most devices is provided by Google. Maps are drawn from OpenStreetMap, which sees which map area is requested.
Device permissions
- Location (Simply Journal, Simply Stories) – only when you add a place.
- Microphone (Simply Journal) – only while you record a voice clip, which is saved on your device.
- Calendar (Simply Schedule) – only if you turn on calendar sync, to add your project dates to your device’s calendar.
- Files, music, pictures and videos (Simply Read, Simply Sounds, Simply Videos) – to find and catalogue the files you already have.
- Notifications (Simply Me, Simply Schedule, Simply Videos) – for reminders and progress.
- Fingerprint / face unlock (Simply Me) – handled by Android; the app never sees your biometric data.
Children
The Simply apps don’t knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.
