Simply Read helps bring some order to your growing pile of books and digital documents. You can sort by title, author, genre, or when you last opened something, so finding what you’re after is never a hassle. Whether it’s physical book logs or digital files, everything lives in one searchable place.
It’s not just about organizing, either—you can rate books you’ve finished, jot down notes or key takeaways, and build your own collections for whatever you’re into, whether that’s research, a reading challenge, or just your summer reading list. It’s a simple way to keep track of what you’ve read and keep your favourites easy to find.
Using the built in AI interface you can quickly summarise documents and extract meaning (API key required).

FAQ
If I remove a title from the Simply Read library will it be deleted from by device
No, Simply Read creates links to the documents on your device so removing them from Simply Read will leave them unchanged.
Why does importing a large number – many hundreds of EPUB books take a while?
Importing EPUB titles into the Simply Read Library involves a conversion to PDF. This is done to make it easier to add notes and highlighting. On normal and reasonably modern devices it doesn’t take very long though.
Why do I need an API key to make summaries?
An API key unlocks your access to use the power of an LLM (large language model) to analyse your books. LLMs are trained by analysing vast amounts of data and are run in large data centres around the world. Some companies offer free use of the less up to date or simpler models. The charges for running more complex or up-to-date models the quite low so if you are unhappy with the analysis provided by the free versions, you might consider paying for using the not free versions.
How to set up an API key
There is a section on this website to help you.
Does it cost me to get an API key so that I can generate summaries?
The supported providers offer free plans and while the free API’s offered are more limited in scope than top end models, they have adequate capability to summarise most documents. Sometimes the free plans will report that they are busy and ask that you try later. If this continues to be a problem for you consider a paid plan – you can get a lot of summaries done for a very small amount of money and can cancel your subscription at any time from the provider we list.
Are there any limits to the size of a library?
None are known.
What happens if you import more books after the initial set up of Simply Read?
Simply press the scan title on the home screen to look for the newly imported books/documents. Simply Read will ignore duplicates.
What if I don’t like the default font size and style of the imported EPUB books?
The settings panel includes options to change these – change the settings to just affect newly imported titles or press the reconvert button to scan and convert the whole library.
Can I change the style of user interface of Simply Read?
The settings panel lets you view documents in light or dark mode (or follow the system default), the tiles can be set to normal or compact and you can change the brightness of the screen when reading a book by sliding your finger up or down on the left edge of the screen.
